Flexstyle is an Italian company specializing in the production of high-end sofas, armchairs, and beds. Always attentive to design and innovation, Flexstyle contacted us with a clear and ambitious need: to create a digital platform that would allow end customers and retailers to configure their products in real time, choosing from modules, accessories, finishes, and upholstery, with a level of realism and interactivity befitting the brand.

The platform had to be versatile, designed for use both in showrooms and online, accessible from any device, with a reserved section for retailers to view their personalized price list. Another fundamental requirement was the ability to integrate the configurator within the retailers' websites, to ensure continuity of experience and maximum diffusion of the tool.

From model to real-time: a tailor-made project

Our work began with the optimization of the 3D models provided by Flexstyle. The first step was to lighten these models to ensure optimal real-time performance without sacrificing visual quality. We then handled the digitalization of textures, starting from physical fabric samples: every material was scanned and transformed into realistic and lightweight textures, ready for the web.
In parallel, we took care of the graphic interface design. The goal was to create a clear, immersive, and accessible experience, even on mobile. The design had to enhance the aesthetics of Flexstyle products and guide the user through every stage of customization, with a simple-to-use minimal interface.

Development of the 3D configurator

The development of the 3D configurator was the heart of the project.
Each module can be attached to another thanks to a "magnet" system that facilitates the composition of the sofas.
Decorative elements, such as cushions, can be customized by the user and positioned on various modules thanks to predefined points.
Another fundamental feature is the automatic calculation of the space occupied by the chosen composition, useful for both the customer and retailers during the design phase.
Everything was integrated with the entire Flexstyle catalog, making all product variants and finishes available directly in the configurator.

The configurator stands out for a series of features that make the user experience fluid and immersive. The interface is completely responsive, designed to adapt to every device, whether desktop, tablet, or smartphone.
Certainly one of the innovations most appreciated by users is augmented reality, which allows the user to visualize the sofa directly in their own home environment via the camera.

The 3D and AR configurator is not just innovation, here is what it solves

Thanks to the 3D configurator, Flexstyle has been able to respond concretely to various operational and commercial needs.
The end customer has the possibility to intuitively explore the entire range of fabrics, colors, and accessories and can customize their sofa in total autonomy, visualizing every choice made in real time.

For retailers, the system drastically simplifies the creation of quotes, thanks to the reserved area that shows personalized price lists and saveable configurations, reducing time and the possibility of error.
The system also improves the sales experience in the showroom, where the product can be shown in all its variants without the need to have every model physically available. Ultimately, it is a tool that combines design and technology to simplify complex processes, making them accessible and intuitive.

From Fuorisalone to training: the configurator in action

The configurator was officially presented during the Milan Fuorisalone, one of the most important events in the design sector, receiving an extremely positive reception from both the public and industry professionals. Today, Flexstyle is carrying out a series of training webinars aimed at its retailers, with the goal of making them increasingly autonomous and competent in the use of this tool.
